Army Corp of Engineers, St. Louis District

This 2.5 million dollar project consists of approximately 100,000cy of excavation and topsoil placement, 5,000cy of pervious dredge material placement, 500lf of reinforced concrete pipe, 4,000lf of guardrail, 5,200lf of flat bottom concrete ditch, and 80 acres of establishment of turf.

The Chain of Rocks levee is located in Madison County, Illinois, in the vicinity of Granite City and East St. Louis. The Federal levee did not perform satisfactorily during the flood of 1993. Sand boils developed along a large portion of the levee, indicative of significant foundation under seepage problems.
